Designed by Lockheed’s Clarence ‘Kelly’ Johnson for the C.I.A., the A-12 was a reconnaissance (Spy) aircraft (13 produced 1962-1964), with 3 missiles stowed internally. The YF-12A was a prototype Interceptor variant armed with 6 missiles externally. 3 were produced in 1963. It eventually became the SR-71 Blackbird. Several were modified for NASA.
